Most of the schools in the area are canceled due to the ice...just another day off for many Wisconsin students (their teachers called in "sick" last week so they could assemble in Madison and protest Governor Walker's efforts to balance our state budget).
But my brave and hard-working son got into his little Honda and headed down the highway for his college classes this morning. The only time the universities cancel school seems to be when the Governor intervenes. Pray for travel mercies!
As I drove through this beautiful snowy valley, I saw lots of tracks up and down the hillsides. You may need to click on the photo and enlarge it to see the trails well.
It wasn't until I came across a hillside of wild turkeys feeding where the farmer had been spreading manure that I knew who had made the trails.
As soon as I stepped out of the car, they began to scurry away.
Too far away and in need of a tripod, but still beautiful!
At some point each winter, the snowbanks along our driveway get too high for the snowplow on our truck to do the job.
That is when we call the county.
Compare the sizes of our snow plow and theirs. Amazing!
Down the drive, around the circle, and out again, and we are ready for a few more snow storms.
This bed and breakfast overlooks the Mississippi River where I took the photos of the eagles. I would love to have a look inside and learn about its history. Doesn't it look like a place you'd like to stay?
