There are many countries I would like to visit:

China
I always thought this would be a beautiful place--the wall, the terracotta warriors, the water buffalo in the river winding through unique mountains.

Eastern Europe
I've seen parts of western Europe, but I've heard enough about the eastern countries that have interested me--the people, the land, and not so much tourism.

Puget Sound
Not a country, but I read a book as a child that was set here. Always wanted to see it myself.

Prince Edward Island
Not a country either but this one comes from reading Anne, of course.

Nepal
I've had many friends who lived here--one had a view of Mt. Everest from her windows.

Scotland
We drove through this country way too fast. I'd like to return. Stonehenges, sheep, idyllic landscapes...

Scandinavia
Fjords and reindeer and women who knit so much and so well.

Israel
The country of my Lord.

Japan
The home of many of my international students whom I taught English--a welcoming people.

The Things We Do...

I was standing at the top of the hill on the edge of a cornfield with my camera, watching the dusk settle upon the farm and the clouds move across the sky when our neighbors came running by--their dad muttered something about "the things we do to stay alive" as he passed me. That made me smile.

Next week my daughter and I are traveling to a reunion in Kentucky. She is sewing a Jane Austen style dress for an English Country Dance. We are shopping and packing and planning--and figuring our route with Mapquest (although hubby says he'll loan me his Garmin he uses for work). Today is sewing day. Do you think we can make a dress in a day?

Tonight promises to be clear and perfect for a star party. I'll be spending the evening on our astronomy club's hill...should be the perfect way to end the day!

Blubble Wrap

I'm going to wrap my hubby in bubble wrap.

And all the cars, too.

After totaling his car last week, he borrowed mine. While stopped at a stoplight today, someone nicked him--didn't see him until it was too late. It doesn't sound serious, but still...

A Friendly Hello

I went to visit my cousins. This is who welcomed me at the door.

Beware the Dangers

Garlic

I don't know if I have a bad cold or the flu, however, my ears have been bothering me. I decided to take the "board" advice and chop up some garlic, wrap it up, and make a poultice out of it. I placed it on my ear and set a warmed rice sock over it. It did not take long before I felt enough relief to fall asleep.

But last night my ear began to throb and ache. It kept me awake much of the night. Early this morning I called the doctor and made an early appointment.

I filled out the forms, had my blood pressure taken, was weighed in, and answered a number of questions. Then the doctor came and and looked into my ears.

Beware the dangers of garlic.

When I had awakened from my garlic-rice sock nap, the poultice had come undone, and it was all over the pillow and in my hair. What I had not know was that I had gotten some in my ear.

Dr. S says this was the first time he had to remove garlic from anyone's ear. He also said I needed to be taking some Sudafed to get my ears drained before I chance an infection.

It would be funnier if I didn't have to pay for the office call. :-)

'Tis the Season...

Wisconsin is getting colder. Last night I had proof that winter was soon to arrive. You see, I noticed part way through the night that if I wanted to stay warm when I rolled over, I had to search for the warm spot. Any deviation, and my body was left lying on a COLD BED.

And then there was the cat.

I was roused by a whiskered face trying to find a way under the covers. I didn't argue. I lifted the duvet, and he settled next to me purring.

If he tries to take my warm spot when I roll over, however, it is going to be all out war. I'm bigger than he is--but he has claws. Hm. Who do you think will win?

I visited my sister last week. Her dog has such silly, fluffy paws! When they go for a walk, sometimes children will laugh out loud when they see Bagel walking by! Don't you just feel like you ought to offer her a scratch?

8 Random Things About Me

1) I love porch swings

2) My hubby and I once drove our small VW Rabbit to the Apostle Islands for a vacation. We had a bike rack attached to the roof, which looked as though we had set our bikes up their, put down the kickstand, and walked away. All who drove buy could be seen cranking their necks to see how such a small car could have two bikes parked on top of it!

3) We once drove the Autobahn in a VW Bug. They do not have speed limits there. We found out why they make the Mercedes Benz, though. No one in his right mind would travel on that highway without a car built like a tank.

4) I went to summer school in Spain and Mexico.

5) Almost my entire life, I have had long hair. I'd braid it and put it up around my head. I loved it. One day I was tending the fire while maple sugaring, and as I threw in a log, the fire flared up just as my pony tail fell forward. My hair melted. Even my eyelashes were singed. I've never taken the time to grown my hair waist length again.

6) My dad gave me a tablespoon of strong, black coffee when I was 5. It took until I was 49 to start drinking it: 1 tablespoon Hershey's Syrup + 1 cup soymilk + 1 cup coffee. Keeps me awake on the way home every time!

7) I turn 50 next month.

8) I wear Avon because it is the only makeup I've found that does not make my face itch!
