Today

I stepped outside to check how well my catalytic converter was working on my wood stove today—I turned it off and then on again to see if the amount of smoke changed; having it on does make a big difference!

When on the deck, I noticed that there was something in the air; perhaps the freezing drizzle that is predicted has started—if it lasts through the night, I’m sure church will be canceled.

The birds are at the bird feeder. Mr. Cardinal is there, chasing the little birds away. He does not come often, and I always am glad to see his bright, cheery-red feathers.

And as I sit here, I see that Penelope is walking past my window; the donkeys and cattle walk from the hay bale down to the spring and back throughout the day.  I should bundle up and go outside to talk to them. I have an overabundance of carrots in my refrigerator drawer and I think they would be more than willing to help me use them up.

Today is the 10th day of Christmas. I finally made the Orange Gum Drops that I said I wanted to make. When they are firm, I will cut them into small squares and roll them in sugar. I also made a dairy-free rocky road. Yum!

Rocky Road

16 oz. dairy-free semi-sweet chocolate chunks

3 cups miniature marshmallows

¾ cup peanuts

Warm chocolate in the top of a double-boiler until melted. Add to marshmallows and peanuts and stir. Poor into an 8x8 pan that is lined with tinfoil, sprayed with cooking spray. Allow to set. Cut into 1 inch squares.

Yesterday I made a Christmas stocking for a friend’s baby--but forgot to take a photo before giving it away. It is similar to the stocking I made last Christmas; I used the fabric I had left over from last year. I use to make Raggedy Ann dolls for baby gifts, but right now Christmas stockings fit into my time schedule more easily.

JoAnne Fabrics had a big sale this weekend, and my friend and I drove to the “big city” to check it out. I bought some patterns—all McCall patterns were $1.99; Simplicity, 40% off. I found some Cozy Flannel for some PJ’s—thick 100% cotton. I’ll need to get my sewing machine humming again.

So, there. Now you know what I’ve been doing. Merry Christmas! Only two more days of celebration, and then we will need to take down the tree and decorations and wait another year for 12 days of quiet peace and relaxation. I think we should consider having Christmas twice each year!

Blessings to you all!

I am simply amazed by Mr. Cardinal. What a remarkable visitor in such a white world. I tried to take some photos for you of my parents' bird table. They have chaffinches, a robin, blue tits and coal tits all visit at once. I don't seem to have your magic touch though.
