1 lb. hamburger
1 teaspoon salt
1 can (28 oz.) stewed tomatoes
1 cup water
Bring to a boil and then add:
1 1/2 cup macaroni
Cook until soft.
Or: you may leave out the water and cook the pasta separately. Mix and warm through.
This is a quick meal I threw together one day. It is one of my children's favorites. The recipe is called Hamburger-Noodle Bake, but I can't remember ever baking it! I suppose I use to toss it all into a casserole dish and warm it through in the oven as I prepared the rest of the meal. Sometimes I have used a quart of home canned tomatoes. Other times, I have chosen to use a can of Hunt's Whole Tomatoes and cut them up into small chunks; Hunt's Whole Tomatoes usually have more of an old-fashioned tomato flavor than many of the stewed tomatoes I've tried. Now that my children are teenagers, I tend to double the recipe; sometimes I only double the meat.
And so, there you have it. The recipe can be multiplied, divided, thickened, thinned, or substituted...and you still have a quick noon meal quietly tucked between Latin class and Biology!
